Below are questions regarding Your Retirement within the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System.

When will I be vested in the retirement system?
You will be vested (eligible to receive a retirement annuity) with 5 years of Arkansas credited service.
When will I be eligible to receive a regular retirement annuity from ATRS?
You will be eligible to receive retirement benefit payments with no reduction when vested at age 60, or at any age with 28 years of service.
Is there an early retirement provision?
Yes. If you have at least 25 years of service you are eligible to receive a reduced benefit payment at any age.
If my position is eliminated due to a reduction in force or if I am terminated, what benefits am I entitled to?
You can request a refund of your contributions plus interest or apply for your retirement annuity when you meet the age and service requirements.
What is the application deadline?
Normal retirement benefits begin on July 1 of each year. For benefits to become effective on July 1, the application must be submitted to the Retirement System prior to May 31st.

All applications for retirement benefits must be filed with this office 1 full month prior to the effective date of benefits (i.e. July benefits require a May application).

Members age 65 or older may apply for benefits without termination of employment.
